NEW DELHI: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has amplified his intent to remain engaged with the campaign for opposition unity by appointing senior JD(U) leader K C Tyagi as special adviser and chief spokesperson of the party.
With five decades of political career and experience of working under most of the socialist leaders of the country and with contacts across the spectrum, Tyagi could be helfpul in forging a joint front against BJP in 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
“Nitish Kumar is the leader of my choice. I had requested him to relieve me of my organisational responsibilities, which had been accepted two months ago,” Tyagi told TOI and added, “However, recent political developments warrants all like-minded parties to come together and end the ongoing politics of confrontation.”
Tyagi confirmed that Bihar had given him a big responsibility in view of his current bid to end contradictions amongst the opposition parties and come together for the next general polls.
“I started my political career under Choudhary Charan Singh and have worked under several veterans and had a long spell working under Nitishji,” he said, adding that he will utilise his resources and experience to propel Nitish’s attempt to bring opposition parties together.
The notification regarding Tyagi’s appointment as ‘special adviser and chief spokesperson’ was issued by JD(U) national president Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh.
“K C Tyagi is an experienced leader associated with socialist movement and has worked closely with late Choudhary Charan Singh (former PM) and Nitish Kumar (CM of Bihar). We want to take advantage of his organisational experience,” Lalan said in a statement.
Earlier on March 21, when JD(U) headed by its new president Lalan Singh released the list of its 32-member national office-bearers, the name of Tyagi was conspicuously missing from the list.
