What It Means For Investors
A bonus issue of equity shares is when a company gives additional shares to its existing shareholders for free, in proportion to the number of shares they already hold.
A 2:1 bonus issue means that for every 1 share held, an investor receives 2 additional shares for free. So, if you own 100 shares, you’ll get 200 bonus shares, making your total holding 300 shares. The share price usually adjusts downward in the same proportion to keep the overall value unchanged.
