Sikh: IS kills Sikh man for his faith in Peshawar; 2nd attack in 48 hours – Times of India
Gunmen killed a member of Pakistan’s minority Sikh community in an overnight attack in Peshawar. Claiming responsibility for the attack, Isalamic State terror group said Manmohan Singh was a follower of a “polytheistic” Sikh sect.
The Pakistani Sikh shopkeeper was shot and killed in Peshawar late on Saturday, two days after another member of the community ducked and survived a barrage of gunshots fired at him by assassins of the Isalamic State terror group.
Manmohan Singh, 29, sold cosmetics near Rasheed Garhi Chowk, a five-minute walk from Gurdwara Bhai Joga Singh. “He was on his way home by autorickshaw when motorcycle-borne terrorists shot him in the heart and head, killing him on the spot,” Peshawar-based Sikh activist Gurpal Singh said. On the sidelines of Manmohan’s funeral on Sunday, the community pleaded with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Sikhs worldwide to highlight their plight and do everything possible to ensure the safety in the face of repeated terror attacks targeting them in Peshawar.
AP reported that IS claimed responsibility for the killing, saying Singh had been a follower of what it called a “polytheistic” Sikh sect in Peshawar. It also claimed wounding a Sikh in the city the previous day.
Gurpal said that of Peshawar’s 7,000-strong Sikh community, 800-odd had already migrated to Nankana Sahib and Lahore for fear of their lives, while some had taken refuge elsewhere.
