Umesh Yadav injured, not dropped; Rinku Singh likely for West Indies T20Is | Cricket News – Times of India

MUMBAI: Veteran fast bowler Umesh Yadav has not been dropped from the two-Test series in the West Indies, but is out due to a hamstring injury, TOI has learnt.
“Umesh is suffering from a hamstring injury and is recovering at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore,” a source in the BCCI told TOI.
It was speculated that Umesh, 35, was dropped after an average show (0-77 & 2-54) in the final of the World Test Championship against Australia at the Oval earlier this month.

‘Doors not closed on Umesh, Pujara’
The selectors haven’t closed the doors on either Umesh, who has taken 170 wickets in 57 Tests, or experienced batsman Cheteshwar Pujara, who has been axed from the Test side.
“If Ajinkya Rahane can be made the vice-captain of the Test side after being out for 15 months before the WTC final, anyone can make a comeback. The doors aren’t closed on any senior player,” the source said.
“It’s just that you need to start transitioning somewhere. The selectors don’t want a situation where all the seniors quit the scene in one go and we don’t have anyone experienced left in the dressing room,” he said.

Rinku Singh for Windies T20Is?
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh and Kolkata Knight Riders‘ batsman Rinku Singh, who set IPL 2023 on fire with his sizzling performances (474 runs in 14 games@59.25, strike rate: 149. 52) is set to be picked for the five-match T20I series against the West Indies and UK, which will begin on August 3 in Tarouba, Trinidad & Tobago.
Mohammed Shami, who has been rested from the West Indies Tests and ODIs, is likely to be rested from the T20Is of the tour too.
