It seems Indian cinema is finally getting its due on the world stage. Recently, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences extended invitations to names like Karan Johar, Jr.NTR, Ram Charan Mani Ratnam and M. M. Keeravani to become Academy Members.The Academy announced their fresh list of 398 members joining them this year, which includes international stars such asTaylor Swift and Ke Huy Quan.
Lyricist Chandrabose of Naatu Naatu fame, filmmaker Shaunak Sen, cinematographer K. K. Senthil Kumar, who also worked on S. S. Rajamouli’s RRR, producer Siddharth Roy Kapur and director Chaitanya Tamhane, have also received invitations.
As per Academy rules, the selection criteria is based on professional qualifications with an ongoing commitment to representation, inclusion and equity.
“The Academy is proud to welcome these artists and professionals into our membership. They represent extraordinary global talent across cinematic disciplines, and have made a vital impact on the arts and sciences of motion pictures and on movie fans worldwide,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang.
The announcement comes shortly after Naatu Naatu won big at the Oscars earlier this year.
