NEW DELHI: Viacom 18 has emerged as the winner of the BCCI‘s bilateral media rights for the next five years, the board’s secretary Jay Shah confirmed on Thursday. The new term for the international and domestic matches in India is from September 2023 to March 2028.
Viacom 18 now has the media rights of bilateral matches along with the digital rights of Indian Premier League (IPL) and Women’s Premier League (WPL).
Announcing the results of the e-auction, Jay Shah posted on social media platform X: “Congratulations @viacom18 for winning the @BCCI Media Rights for both linear and digital for the next 5 years. India Cricket will continue to grow in both spaces as after @IPL, and @wplt20, we extend the partnership @BCCI Media Rights as well. Together we will continue to capture the imagination of Indian cricket fans.”

Jay Shah extended thanks to Star India and Disney+Hotstar for their support over the years.
“Also a big thank you to @starindia and @DisneyPlusHS for your support over the years. You played a key role in making India Cricket reach its fans across the globe,” Jay Shah added.

“Viacom 18 paid Rs 3101 crore (approximately) for digital and Rs 2862 crore for linear (TV). As has been the trend, digital has fetched more. With IPL digital rights being bought by Viacom for Rs 26,000 crore plus, they now have almost all the high profile cricket properties save IPL linear (TV) and ICC events,” a broadcasting industry source, tracking developments closely, told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
India will play 88 international games across three formats, including 25 Tests, 27 ODIs, and 36 T20Is, for a total of Rs 67.76 crore each match. This is roughly Rs 7.76 crore more than the previous cycle’s per-match worth of Rs 60 crore.
However, the BCCI would receive Rs 175 crore less than the Rs 6138 crore it received during the last cycle, which had 102 games.
Given the current market attitudes, it is not a bad price to obtain, as the per match valuation has improved. Only marquee Test matches and series against England and Australia will generate significant advertising money. Only the T20 format generates revenue for international matches.
During the next five years, India will play Australia in 21 matches and England in 18 matches across three formats.
