Victoria Beckham finally speaks up about David Beckham’s alleged affair – Times of India
NEW DELHI: In a candid revelation, Victoria Beckham has opened up about what she describes as the “hardest period” in her marriage to husband David Beckham, addressing allegations of his alleged affair during his time with Real Madrid in 2003. The couple has previously denied these claims.
In a Netflix documentary titled “Beckham,” released on Wednesday, the former Spice Girl shared her perspective on this challenging time, BBC reported.
“It was the hardest period for us because it felt like the world was against us.” Victoria said.
She added, “Here’s the thing – we were against each other if I’m completely honest.”
According to a report in BBC, Victoria recounted that prior to their time in Madrid, they often felt like they were facing the world together.
“It was a nightmare. From the minute we opened the press were there in cars and everywhere we went, we were followed.”
She described it as “an absolute circus,” and when asked if she had resented her husband at that time, she admitted, “If I’m being totally honest, yes I did. It was probably, if I’m being honest, the most unhappy I have ever been in my entire life.”
According to the report, David Beckham, the former England and Manchester United midfielder who is now the owner of Inter Miami, also reflected on how the speculation about his alleged infidelity had impacted both him and their family.
Beckham said, “There was some horrible stories that were difficult to deal with.” He added, “It was the first time that me and Victoria had been put under that kind of pressure in our marriage. I think we both felt at the time that we were, not losing each other, but drowning.”
He also expressed uncertainty about how they managed to get through it, saying, “I don’t know how we got through it, in all honesty.”
While the documentary touches on the alleged infidelities, it keeps the details vague, as noted by The Independent
The Guardian praised the docuseries as a “candid, riveting truth about the footballer’s life,” with writer Rebecca Nicholson stating, “Every episode just flies by.”
The Telegraph awarded full marks to the documentary, describing it as a “superb, intimate and at times heartbreaking portrayal of an unexpectedly complex man.” The paper’s Benji Wilson noted that it goes beyond the typical sports documentary, offering insights into David’s career and family life.
