NEW DELHI: Captain Rohit Sharma’s 86 and an inspired bowling display helped India hammer Pakistan by seven wickets in their high-octane World Cup clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
India bowled out Pakistan for 191 as their rivals collapsed from being 155-2. The hosts then breezed through to the target with 117 balls to spare for a seven-wicket victory.
The win extended India’s unbeaten streak in the 50-over showpiece tournament. The two-time champions had previously beaten Australia and Afghanistan in their campaign.

The win was India’s eighth over Pakistan in the 50-over ICC World Cups. Pakistan have never beaten India in the showpiece ODI event.
Rohit stood out in his 63-ball knock laced with six fours and six sixes to keep India, who are one of the top favourites to win the title, unbeaten in their three matches so far in this edition.

Bumrah (2/19 in 7 overs), Siraj (2/50 in 8 overs), Kuldeep (2/35 in 10 overs), Hardik Pandya (2/34 in 6 overs) and Ravindra Jadeja (2/35 in 9.5 overs) were relentless in their pursuit of choking the opposition into submission.
This was Pakistan’s second-lowest score against India in ODI World Cups after the 180 all-out in 1999.

India will now take on Bangladesh on October 19 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
Pakistan will face Australia on October 20 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
