‘Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki will also earn Rs 500 crore, just like Pathaan and Jawan,’ says producer Ratan Jain – Exclusive | Hindi Movie News – Times of India
As Shah Rukh Khan turns 58, ETimes reached out to one of his long time friends and early collaborators, producer Ratan Jain. Jain and SRK started off with Baazigar and associated five times till they co-produced Main Hoon Na together. While recalling their journey Jain says, “All the films we did together, turned out fine at the box office.”
Shah Rukh Khan wasn’t a superstar when Ratan Jain first offered him Baazigar. He recalls, “At the time of Baazigar, he was a new actor. He had done a few films. And I found onlyShah Rukh Khan was ready to do something new. He was experimenting with everything. He was not interested in doing regular romantic or action films. I approached a lot of actors but nobody was ready to do that role in Baazigar. Everybody was scared that the role would go against their image. Shah Rukh knew what I was making. In my first meeting with him, he said, ‘Okay, I will do this role and I will do it better than everybody.’ And he did it.”
Jain approached almost every top actor in Bollywood but found no takers for Baazigar. He reasons, “They didn’t believe in the film. But Shah Rukh understood it and he wanted to do anti-hero films.” Not just his foresight, but Jain appreciates SRK’s dedication to filmmaking as well. He explains, “He is totally committed to his work. He never gets tired. Once he comes to the sets, he is there till you work. Actually, that’s why we immediately did films like Badshah, Yes Boss and Josh.”
From being producer Ratan Jain’s actor, SRK eventually graduated to being his co-producer as well. Jain recalls, “Actually, Main Hoon Na was his first home production under the Red Chillies banner. Because it was his first film, he wanted somebody to associate with him. Both of us were very close to each other because of the films we had done earlier. We had belief in each other. He knew my company and nature very well. I was also very fond of him. From our first film itself, I knew how good an actor and a person he is. In 2023, two of his films have already done business in excess of 500 crores and his third film Dunki will do the same.”
Having worked so closely with SRK, Jain has a fair insight into the kind of person King Khan is, above and beyond his persona as an actor and a star. He reveals, “He is very sharp. He knows what he wants to do. He always wants to do something innovative. As a person, if he likes somebody he likes them. If he doesn’t like someone, he doesn’t like them.”
