Uttarakhand: Over 30 people feared trapped as part of under-construction tunnel collapses in Uttarkashi | Dehradun News – Times of India
DEHRADUN: Over 30 people are feared to be trapped after a portion of the under-construction tunnel from Silkyara to Dandalgaon in Uttarkashi collapsed, on Sunday.
District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police from Uttarkashi district are currently on-site, overseeing the situation.
District disaster management officer Devendra Patwal said that as per initial information, the incident occurred at around 270m depth from Silkayara side of the tunnel.The tunnel is 2340m deep.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Police Revenue teams have also been deployed to the location to aid in relief efforts.
Commander of the SDRF, Manikant Mishra, upon receiving the information, has directed SDRF rescue teams to mobilize to the site with necessary rescue equipment.
“After reaching the spot, SDRF is carrying out relief and rescue work on a war footing in coordination with other rescue units,” reported ANI quoting SDRF.
“In Silkyara Tunnel, a part of the tunnel has broken about 200 meters ahead of the starting point. According to the officials of HIDCL, which is looking after the construction work of the tunnel, about 36 people are trapped in the tunnel and efforts are being made to rescue them safely,” said Uttarkashi SP Arpan Yaduvanshi.
Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said taht he has been in contact with the officials from the time he got to know about the incident.
