NEW DELHI: The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday banned Halal certification on food products including dairy products, sugar, bakery products, peppermint oil, namkeen ready to eat savoury snacks and food oil.

It has come to the notice that Halal certification is being used on food products, dairy products, sugar, bakery products, peppermint oil, namkeen ready to eat savoury snacks and food oil.However, it must be mentioned that in 2006, a food safety and standards act was formalized in which it was accredited that one FSSAI and ISI will check the food quality and a specific act dealing for it 3 (1). Following which halal certification on food products and others is illegal in the state.As a result, halal certification on food products including dairy products, sugar, bakery products, peppermint oil, namkeen ready to eat savoury snacks and food oil is banned and those indulging in it will be booked under section 30 (2) (d) of food safety and standards act. However, the rule was barred for such products which were exported.
Meanwhile, the additional chief secretary, food safety and drug administration, has directed the food commissioner to extend such a ban if they come across any on medicines, medical equipment, cosmetics, its storage, along with sale and its marketing with halal certification.
