‘Not Bharat jodo yatra but Bharat todo yatra’: Ramdas Athawale slams Rahul Gandhi | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Republican Party of India (Athawale) leader and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale criticized Rahul Gandhi‘s Bharat jodo yatra, calling it a “Bharat todo yatra” or Break India Yatra. In a press conference, Athawale stated, “I feel this is not Rahul Gandhi’s Nyay Yatra but this is ‘Anyay yatra’ (injustice yatra). This is not Bharat jodo yatra but Bharat todo yatra.”
Athawale dismissed the yatra as a political spectacle and emphasized that there is no need to unite the country. He highlighted that India was previously divided, but Dr. BR Ambedkar’s constitution united the nation in a way that it cannot be broken. According to Athawale, Rahul Gandhi need not worry about the country as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government are there to handle it.
Athawale further opined that the Congress party would not gain any political advantage from the Bharat Jodo Yatra. He stated, “When they (Congress) were in power, they did not make any efforts to unite the country or provide justice to the people.
This yatra is just a drama, so it won’t benefit Congress.” Meanwhile, West Bengal Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury alleged that the administration of Siliguri denied permission for a “small meeting” requested by the Congress party during the ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi.
Chowdhury claimed that the yatra has faced various challenges, whether in Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled states or in Mamata Banerjee-led Bengal. Chowdhury stated, “The Nyay Yatra has faced attacks and obstacles since its inception… In Manipur, Rahul Gandhi was not allowed to hold a public meeting where we intended to do so.
We had to conduct the meeting on private property outside of Manipur… In Assam, the yatra was attacked by police personnel on orders from the government… In West Bengal, we requested to hold a meeting in Siliguri, but it was denied.” Chowdhury clarified that the yatra is not meant to support or oppose any particular party but is for the benefit of everyone in the country.
His comments came after Rahul Gandhi struck a conciliatory tone during the Bengal leg of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, amidst Mamata Banerjee’s decision to contest the Lok Sabha polls in her state independently.
