Infighting in TN Congress: Meet says don’t give PC’s son LS ticket | India News – Times of India
CHENNAI: A section of Tamil Nadu Congress’s Sivaganga unit resolved Saturday against fielding former Union finance minister P Chidambaram’s son and current MP Karti Chidambaram in their constituency again, revealing fissures within the party when it is engaged in seat-sharing talks with DMK for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
This was decided at a meeting attended by former Union minister EM Sudarsana Natchiappan and members of the Sivaganga unit, including former supporters of P Chidambaram who represented the constituency seven times in Parliament.
During the meeting, Natchiappan proposed a resolution against Karti’s candidacy in the Sivaganga constituency, a stand unanimously supported by those present. Notably, Natchiappan had opposed Karti’s candidature in 2019, but later backed his campaign.
Natchiappan clarified that the meeting initially aimed to discuss the appointment of booth agents in the constituency as directed by the party high command. “But an unexpectedly large crowd turned out and demanded that a resolution be passed against fielding Karti from Sivaganga again,” he said.
He emphasised the significance of the resolution, citing Karti’s recent statement in a Tamil news channel interview where he remarked that “nobody is a match for Modi, not even Rahul Gandhi”.
