J&K Muslim Conference’s both factions declared unlawful associations | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: The Centre on Wednesday declared two separate factions of Muslim Conference Jammu and Kashmir led by Haji Ghulam Nabi Sumji and Masrat Alam Bhat as ‘unlawful associations’ over their terror linkages, separatist agenda, raising funds from sources including Pakistan for unlawful activities in J&K including sustained stone-pelting and giving election boycott calls.
Announcing the five-year ban on the two outfits under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, home minister Amit Shah posted on X: “Striking terror networks with undiminished vehemence, the government has declared the Muslim Conference Jammu & Kashmir (Sumji faction) and Muslim Conference Jammu & Kashmir (Bhat faction) as unlawful associations. These outfits have been engaging in activities against the sovereignty and integrity of the nation. PM @narendramodi Ji’s government is determined to uproot terrorism and anyone involved in unlawful activities will face dire consequences”.
The separate notifications banning the two outfits cite their linkages with banned terror outfits and support to terrorism; involvement of their leaders and cadres in creating disaffection against India to separate J&K from Union of India; raising funds from Pakistan and its proxies to support terrorist activities in J&K; disrespect shown by their members towards the Constitutional setup; and for giving clarion call to boycott elections in J&K on multiple occasions.
Stating that the two outfits, unless the unlawful activities of the two outfits are immediately curbed, would continue with their anti-national activities, advocating secession of J&K and propagating false narrative and anti-national sentiment among the people of J&K, the MHA notification said the Centre was declaring Sumji and Bhat factions of the Muslim Conference J&K as “unlawful association” for a period of five years with immediate effect.
