GURGAONThree workers succumbed to burn injuries they suffered during an explosion in the dust collector of an auto parts factory in Rewari last Wednesday. While one of the workers was undergoing treatment at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, two were admitted to the Rohtak medical college. The police have added section 304-A of IPC to the FIR lodged in the case.
Around 70 workers were on evening shift when an explosion occurred in the dust collector of Lifelong Pvt Ltd’s factory in Dharuhera, Rewari, around 5.45pm, leading to a blaze. Videos circulated on social media showed people running out of the factory amid plumes of smoke. A total of 38 workers were injured.
Vijay Kumar (25) of Bahraich in UP was admitted to the burn ward of Safdarjung because he had suffered more than 85% burns. His colleagues at the factory said Vijay was initially taken to the Rohtak hospital

from Rewari’s Trauma Centre

, but referred to Safdarjung after his condition deteriorated.
Vijay succumbed to injuries around 6am on Tuesday. “His family reached Delhi and was handed the body after an autopsy. They took it for the last rites at their hometown,” said Vijender Kumar of Dharuhera police station.
Ajay

Chauhan

(28) of Mainpuri in UP died at Rohtak medical college around 4.30pm. He stayed at a rented accommodation in Dharuhera with other workers of the factory.
Ajay is survived by his elderly parents, wife of two years and a five-month-old daughter. “He was the sole earning member in his family of five. He had a daughter just five months ago. We tried our best to save him, but couldn’t. He died with 70% burns. There are many others who have suffered more than 90% burn injuries,” said Pradeep Chauhan, his cousin.
Ramu, a resident of Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh was the third worker who succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday night.
“We have added section 304-A (death by negligence) to the FIR lodged against the contractor Shivam and others (includes Aswani contractor, Incredible Manpower Force etc). The case is under investigation,” said Jagdeesh Chand, SHO Dharuhera.
There are 18 factory workers undergoing treatment at the Rohtak hospital.
Ravi, a factory worker who has been attending to his colleagues, alleged negligence on the part of the hospital staff.
“All our workers are admitted in four wards here. There are some wards where our workers are not being looked after properly. Nurses keep raising their voice,” he alleged.
Ravi claimed neither their contractor nor any company representative had come to meet the injured workers in the past two days.
“A contractor came on Mar 17 and distributed Rs 1,000 for each injured worker. This was for their food, fruits and juice. We were rushed here in an emergency. We don’t have any money with us. We have been left to fend for themselves,” he alleged.
The company management had said earlier it would bear the treatment cost of all the injured workers and hand out compensation.
