Cash for query case: CBI raids Mahua Moitra’s residence | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday conducted raids at TMC leader Mahua Moitra‘s residence in connection with the cash for query case.
CBI is also conducting raids at other locations in Kolkata.
The raids come after CBI filed an FIR against the former TMC MP on Thursday in response to directives from the anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal. The Lokpal had issued instructions to the CBI after reviewing the findings of the agency’s preliminary inquiry into allegations raised by BJP Lok Sabha member Nishikant Dubey against Mahua.
The Lokpal directed the CBI to investigate comprehensively all facets of the complaints against her within six months.
Mahua, who was expelled from the Lok Sabha in December last year for alleged “unethical conduct,” is currently challenging her expulsion in the Supreme Court. Despite the controversy, she is set to contest the upcoming general elections as the TMC’s candidate from the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal.
Dubey accused Mahua of soliciting cash and gifts from Dubai-based businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for raising questions in the Lok Sabha to criticize industrialist Gautam Adani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, among others. Mahua vehemently denied these allegations.
