Casting director Mukesh Chhabra reveals actors in search of work frequently go to funerals to make contacts: ‘I don’t understand that desperation’ | undefined Movie News – Times of India
Casting director Mukesh Chhabra has disclosed how unskilled people enter the acting industry and go to tremendous lengths to find work. He gave the example of struggling actors attending famous actors’ funerals, where celebrities from the film industry gather to pay their respects. Mukesh expressed he has even confronted those actors for their actions, stating that he is deeply offended by their desperation.
During a conversation with Neelesh Misra, Mukesh stated that there are so many people who are so desperate to become actors that they do not miss any opportunity under any circumstances.
To support his statement, he gave an example and said, “One senior actor passed away. At the funeral, a lot of actors were present. I don’t know why I am saying this, but few people attended the funeral just to make contacts, I don’t understand that desperation.”
Mukesh further added, “If you have learnt the craft, you are working hard, then I respect that. You have not taken any training, you have not learned anything and you are trying to come directly, that too in such situations. It’s frustrating to hear people speak in such situations, where they are not considering the reality of the world and their own situation.”
Mukesh said he has never understood this kind of behaviour and has often told struggling actors to at least be respectful of the situation they find themselves in, particularly when it’s a funeral. He continued by saying that this makes him angry.
Earlier, the casting director criticized the trend of young actors depending on their Instagram followers to land roles. He told Indian Express, “This generation is very different. They focus more on social media rather than their craft. I have seen Rajkummar Rao struggling, I have seen Vicky Kaushal work hard. Today’s youngsters talk about making reels, brag about their Instagram followers list.”
