Jhumka Gira Re …: American woman’s Instagram post on India goes viral – Times of India
“My life has changed [in] many ways since coming to India. It definitely took an adjustment time coming here, but now I love my life in India and wouldn’t have it any other way,” Fischer captioned her video that has the famous “Jhumka Gira Re” song in the background.
Here are the 10 ways how Fischer’s life changed after moving to India
“Indian way of eating is better”
Fischer said that the family decided that the Indian way of eating is better, which includes being a vegetarian.
“Between the animal cruelty and the health benefits, eating Veg is a no-brainer for us,” she added.
She wears kurtas every day
She said that since Indian clothes are always made from lightweight cotton, they are great for the hot weather in the country. I pretty much wear kurtas every day and love it, she adds.
Fischer uses public transport
Heaping praise on Delhi’s public transport facilities, Fischer says that the city “has some of the best public transport options in the world!” While comparing it to the US, she said “the public transport is lacking and if you want to go anywhere you pretty much need to own a car.”
Chai is “my favourite part of the day”
She says that chai is now a regular part of her daily routine.
“It is probably my favourite part of the day and reminds me to take a break and enjoy,” she added.
Sending kids to private schools
“In America, I never would have sent my kids to a private school. It is too expensive and the quality of education is not much different,” she said, adding that in India, the private schools are great.
Eating with hands
Fischer said that in the beginning, she faced a problem while eating with hands as it was messy and awkward. Now, she prefers to eat with hands “and even think food tastes better this way!”
Learning and speaking Hindi
She said that one obvious change that she had to make after coming to India was learning and using it regularly.
“It is very difficult to live in Delhi without being fluent in Hindi. It was hard work, but I am so proud that I was able to learn and speak Hindi,” she says in her post.
Household chores without machines
Apart from learning Hindi, Fischer says that she had to learn how to work without using machines.
“In America, we have conveniences like dishwashers, dryers, garbage disposals, and roombas. I have had to learn to do a lot of these household chores in a whole new way, without machines,” she added.
Indian food is “healthy, fresh, and homemade”
She also likes Indian food because unlike in America where it revolves around being quick, easy, and convenient, in India, the food is more whole food, healthy, fresh and homemade.
Changed sanitary habits
Fischer was reluctant to use the toilet sprayer at first but she is “never going back” because “it is cleaner, easier, and just overall better. It is definitely something done right in India.”
At the time of writing, her video has nearly 2 million views on Instagram, about 58,000 likes and over 3000 shares.
