India’s top-order batting needs improvement for second T20I against South Africa – Times of India

India will face South Africa in the second T20 international match on Sunday. South Africa will be aiming to end India’s winning streak in this format.
Sanju Samson‘s impressive century of 107 runs off 50 balls helped India secure a significant 61-run victory in the first match of the series. India will be hoping he can replicate this performance.
Despite Samson’s performance, India is seeking more consistent batting from its top-order batsmen. This is crucial to alleviate pressure on their in-form wicketkeeper-batsman.
The team management is particularly concerned about opener Abhishek Sharma’s string of low scores. He has not been able to capitalize on opportunities.
Apart from a century against Zimbabwe in Harare, Sharma’s recent scores have been 0, 10, 14, 16, 15, 4, and 7. This lack of consistency is a cause for concern.
Sharma’s inconsistency at the top of the order may lead India to reconsider their options. The team is seeking a reliable opening partner for Yashasvi Jaiswal, especially with Rohit Sharma nearing retirement from T20 internationals.
Although changes to the playing XI for the second match are unlikely, the team management will be looking for improvement from Sharma.
Tilak Varma made a quick 33 runs off 18 balls in the first match. However, he will be aiming to convert these promising starts into more substantial scores.
Varma has not played much since January. With increasing competition for middle-order positions, he will be eager to secure his place in the team.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed early in the first match. All-rounder Hardik Pandya also had a disappointing performance.
Despite appearing strong on paper, India’s middle order struggled to build partnerships. The team lost six wickets for 36 runs, going from 166/2 to 202/8 by the end of their 20 overs.
This collapse exposed a vulnerability in India’s middle and lower order. The team will be looking to address this weakness in the second T20I.
India’s bowlers were impressive in the first match. They restricted South Africa to 141 runs in 17.5 overs.
Varun Chakravarthy continued his good form from the Bangladesh series. He took three wickets, while Ravi Bishnoi also took three wickets for 28 runs.
The spinners were effective in restricting South Africa’s batsmen. The pitch in Durban offered little assistance to the bowlers.

The Proteas are missing key players such as Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, and Tabraiz Shamsi. Their absence is a significant setback for the team.
The second T20I will be challenging for South Africa. The team is also dealing with recent losses against the West Indies and a drawn series against Ireland.
