Elon Musk‘s mother Maye Musk reacted to a post on X about the Tesla CEO’s early struggles, which created a ripple as Elon Musk’s father, Errol Musk, earlier claimed that they were not poor and Elon Musk as a child only rode Rolls-Royce. “Elon Musk arrived in North America at 17 with $2000, a backpack & a suitcase full of books. Paid his own way thru college. Dropped out of Stanford Eng/Phys grad school with $110k in college debt,” a viral post claimed. The post started a debate on whether it was true because Elon Musk’s father dismissed Elon’s unhappy childhood stories. There’s also a rumor that Errol Musk’s family owned an emerald mine and Elon Musk’s entire career was funded by that. Elon Musk addressed the rumors and said those were fake. He even offered to pay a million (in Dogecoin) to anyone for proving that an emerald mine exists in his family name.“I grew up in a family that shifted from a lower-income background to an upper-middle-class setting. Howrvee, my childhood was not a joyful one. I have never received any inheritance from anyone, nor has anyone ever given me a large monetary gift,” Elon Musk once said.Errol Musk, however, admitted that it existed and it played a big part in the family history. He also said that funds for Elon Musk’s early projects come from those emeralds. Maye Musk on Monday decided to address the controversy and said not only Elon Musk but his siblings, Kimbal and Tosca, also graduated with over $100,000 in debt. “During those years, I was living in a rent-controlled apartment in Toronto, and was a research officer at the University of Toronto. I had a dietetic practice, and modeled part time. My income could definitely not cover their university expenses. It took them many years to pay off their loans,” Maye Musk said.
