Prabhas’s ‘The Raja Saab’ needs a major push in North America; Advance Booking is struggling | Telugu Movie News – The Times of India
Post the success of Baahubali series- Prabhas has been the unprecedented king of North American box office for Indian films, he has 4 spots in the Top 15 ranks. But with his latest film The Raja Saab directed by Maruthi- a horror-comedy film, the film is struggling to attract an audience. As per report with just 13 days to go for the film’s release the film has till now collected USD 180,000 at North American ticket window. Out of total collection- the USA market has collected over USD 173,000. Given the context of Prabhas’s past films like Kalki 2898 AD or Salaar: Part 1- Ceasefire, the advance booking for the film had opened in North American markets a month before its release date just like The Raja Saab. But the response here is absolutely opposite, both other films with less than 2 weeks to release had already crossed the USD 1 million mark for its premiere shows while The Raja Saab is struggling to cross USD 200K. The trend is extremely alarming for the film as the distributors in the circuit have bought the film at a huge cost and the film needs to collect at least USD 10 million to break even. In comparison, Thalapathy Vijay’s Jan Nayagan which is also releasing on the same day as The Raja Saab on the occasion of Pongal on 9th January is faring in a much better way despite opening in advance booking about 10 days ago. Vijay’s final film directed by H Vinoth has till now collected over USD 107,000 in the United States of America alone. The film features Bobby Deol and Pooja Hegde in pivotal roles. Also Vijay’s film is a Tamil film while Prabhas’s film is in Telugu and in North American markets- Telugu film has always fared better than Tamil films. One of the major reasons for poor response to The Raja Saab is the genre of the film- fans of Prabhas love to see him in larger than life characters.
