15-Day-Old Baby Girl Dies, Mother Alleges Father Poisoned Her In Karnataka

A tragic incident in Karnataka’s Belagavi district has raised serious concerns after a 15-day-old baby girl died under suspicious circumstances. The case has triggered allegations within the family, with claims that the child may have been deliberately harmed. The incident took place in Ukkada village of Belagavi taluk, leaving the family of the new born shaken.
“I suspect my husband killed our baby,” the mother, Sheela, has alleged in her statement to News18 Kannada. She said her husband Bhimaraya came to see their 15-day-old daughter on March 17 while she was staying at her parental home after delivery.
According to her, he was carrying a small tube when he arrived. Soon after he left the house, the baby girl died suddenly. Sheela and her parents have made serious allegations that the child may have been poisoned.
The sudden death of the new born has raised several doubts. Family members said the baby girl was healthy and active before the father’s visit. Within hours of his arrival and departure, the infant died unexpectedly. This timeline has become a key focus of the allegations made by the mother and her family.
Neighbours and relatives in the village have also expressed shock over the incident. The unusual sequence of events has led to growing concern, as the family insists that the death may not have been natural.

Father Absconding After Incident
Following the incident, Bhimaraya is reported to have absconded. Police are searching for him as part of the ongoing inquiry. The new-born’s body has been kept at Belagavi BIMS Hospital for further examination.
Police officials, including the Belagavi Rural ACP and Kakati CPI, have visited the spot and conducted a preliminary inspection. Authorities have stated that the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report.
The grieving family staged a protest outside BIMS Hospital, demanding justice for the child. They placed the baby girl’s body outside the hospital and expressed anger over the incident, seeking immediate action against the accused.
DCP Narayan Baramani, who visited the hospital, assured the family that further steps would be taken based on the post-mortem findings. The investigation is ongoing, and officials have said that all angles will be examined before drawing conclusions.
