From ‘fragile 5’ to 5th largest: BJP hails PM | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: BJP on Tuesday said Indian economy and governance are reaching “saturation levels”, reversing the earlier description of being “hobbled”, since Narendra Modi took over as the PM. The government’s welfare programmes, from free ration to the poor, to housing for all, and free Covid vaccines during the pandemic, are fulfilling the requirements of the people.
BJP, in its economic and social resolution proposed on the second day of the national executive meeting on Tuesday, hailed PM Modi for transforming India into the fifth-largest economy from a ‘fragile five’ economy. The party hailed Modi for making the Indian economy robust and putting it on a strong footing despite leading economies struggling for past few years.
The resolution underlined that India is now moving towards politics and governance of saturation, suggesting that the Modi government’s progarmmes are fulfilling people’s needs, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan said at a presser. He said the resolution was proposed by Maharashtra deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis. It was seconded by Union minister V Muraleedharan and BJP MP from Haryana Sunita Duggal.
BJP’s meet also expressed its gratitude towards Modi for the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, he said. “The opposition used to ridicule BJP asking for the date of construction of the temple. Now, the temple is under construction and its date has also been announced,” he said.
In the past eight and a half years, the government has made the Indian economy and society more inclusive and self-dependent, the BJP leader said. “When we came to power, India was in ‘fragile five’ and now, when we are completing 75 years of independence… (it) became the fifth largest economy, leaving behind the UK,” he said. Pradhan also said under Modi government, India’s contribution to the world GDP rose to 3.5% from 2.6%.
The resolution also hailed the Modi government for developing a digital transaction ecosystem and stated that 40% of global digital transactions are happening in India, as per Pradhan. On the financial side, the resolution talked about the goods and services tax (GST) and also 22.6% rise in tax collections, he said.
