SRH captain Aiden Markram: Want to create an environment where players can express themselves | Cricket News – Times of India
New Zealand’s Kane Williamson had led the Sunrisers last season. The team finished a disappointing eighth, with six wins and eight defeats.
Williamson was released by Sunrisers ahead of this year’s auction, where Gujarat Titans secured his services. And Markram has been given the captaincy responsibilities for this season.

“I just want to create an environment where players can be themselves, express themselves,” Markram told TimesofIndia.com.
Markram, who was part of the Punjab Kings in 2021, was bought by the Sunrisers in the 2022 Players Auction for Rs. 2.60 crore.

He played 14 matches for the Orange Army and scored 381 runs at an average of 47.63, including three half-centuries. Markram had smashed an unbeaten 68 to hand Sunrisers a 7-wicket win against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
It wasn’t really a surprise to see Markram being made SRH captain. He was the frontrunner for the captaincy armband after leading SRH’s sister franchise Sunrisers Eastern Cape to the inaugural SA20 title in Johannesburg recently. Sunrisers will play their opening match against the Rajasthan Royals in Hyderabad on April 2.
The star all-rounder in fact was also the winner of the Player of the Tournament award at the SA20 for a stupendous all-round show – 366 runs and 11 wickets.
On being appointed as Sunrisers captain, Markram told TimesofIndia.com – “I always look for characters who can handle high pressure in a tournament like the IPL. Looking at the squad at the Sunrisers, we have a great bunch of players and there are players who have strong characters. Looking forward to those guys stepping up when it’s needed and showing their experience”.
DEWALD BREVIS – Mr. 360
Is T20 cricket becoming more and more competitive? Is it becoming more demanding? Probably.

If Suryakumar Yadav has been setting the limited-overs stage on fire for India, South Africa have also found a new Mr. 360 in Dewald Brevis.
Brevis, also known as Baby ABD, hit 16 sixes in the SA T20 league and scored 235 in 10 matches.
Is a national call-up now around the corner for the young sensation?
“He (Brevis) is an exceptional talent. He is a great player. He always wants to learn and keeps discussing things. He loves cricket a lot. I have got no doubt that if he keeps putting up performances like this, he will get into the international side. His cricketing ability and talent are just amazing. I am sure he has got a massive future ahead of him. He is an exciting talent,” Markram further told TimesofIndia.com.
