Rani Mukerji on fighting cynicism before Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway release: Term ‘OTT content’ has bothered me a lot – Times of India

Rani Mukerji is currently in a celebratory mood as her recently released film Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway has managed to sustain well at the box office. As the movie earned around $3 million worldwide, Rani talked about fighting cynicism around the release of her film and how the term OTT content has bothered her.
“I truly believe that a good film will always find its audience, regardless of what the genre is. There was a lot of challenge for our film, because the new fashionable word that is going on is OTT ‘content’ – it is something that has bothered me a lot. Because I do believe that cinema is an experience to be had in the theaters,” Rani told Variety.

She further added, “There was so much cynicism before the release of the film and so many naysayers saying that fashionable term OTT content. So, it was really scary because when you are all alone, fighting this cynicism, I was just hoping and praying that the audience validates my belief in good cinema. And the audience has done that.”

In the film, Rani essays the role of a mother battling the state for her kids. The film is based on Sagarika Chakaraborty’s book The Journey of a Mother. Helmed by Ashima Chibber, Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway also stars Neena Gupta, Jim Sarbh and Anirban Bhattacharya among others.

Rani also revealed that she has not signed any other film and also expressed her wish to take Mardaarni franchise, which was directed by late Pradeep Sarkar, forward. She said that she is waiting for the script on the next part from Mardaarni 2 director Gopi Puthran. “I’ll definitely have Dada’s [Sarkar’s] blessings for sure, for the third one,” she added.
