The duo has given some of the biggest hits in the country, but are you aware that their first collaboration Maine Pyar Kiya was on the verge of getting shelved?
According to reports, many top stars of the era had refused the lead role in the film, the main reason being the production house owned by Barjatyas had a string of flops and there was a rumour that they are in debt, and on top of that they were launching a new director, Sooraj Barjatya. So no one wanted to take the risk of being associated with the banner.
Reports also suggest that Salman who had done a small role in Biwi Ho To Aisi had failed the screen test. But six months later, Sooraj went ahead with Salman and Bhagyashree and the film was a smash hit, the biggest hit of 1989, changing fortunes for everyone involved.
