Free bus rides from today for Telangana women | India News – Times of India
HYDERABAD: Following directions from the state government, Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has announced free travel facility to women in its buses from Saturday. Addressing the media, on Friday, TSRTC MD VC Sajjanar said that chief minister Revanth Reddywill launch the free travel scheme for women on Saturday. Free bus travel will be made available to women across the state from 2 pm.
Women can travel free of charge in city ordinary and metro express services in Hyderabad. Apart from women, girls, students and the third gender can also travel at free of cost. In intra-state, women can travel free in ‘palle velugu’ and express bus services. This initiative is set to put a burden of 3,000 crore on state every year.
Sajjanar said there is a possibility of increasing congestion in buses. “Around 7,200 buses will be made available for scheme. At present, women contribute to 40% of patronage and this may go up to 55%. We will issue zero cost tickets to women upon submitting their ID proofs,” Sajjanar added.
