NEW DELHI: England’s white-ball captain Jos Buttler has made a significant personal decision, opting to officially change his name to Josh Buttler. After enduring years of being called the wrong name, Buttler expressed his determination to “solve the problem once and for all.”
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) shared the news on social media, featuring a video where Buttler himself announced the change.

In the video, Buttler explained that he has spent over 30 years correcting people who mistakenly called him ‘Josh’ instead of ‘Jos’. To put an end to the confusion once and for all, he decided to make the change official.

“Hi there. I’m England white ball captain Jos Buttler. But for my entire life, I’ve been called the wrong name,” said Buttler in the video. “From people on the street to my mum, and in my birthday card. Dear Josh, you’re getting old. Happy birthday. Lots of Love, Mum. Even my MBE was wrong. So, after 13 years representing my country and two World Cup wins, it’s time to finally fix the problem. To solve the problem once and for all, I am officially Josh Buttler.”

Buttler is set to debut with his new name in an official match later tonight as the Rajasthan Royals face off against the Mumbai Indians. The seasoned cricketer, boasting two World Cup victories and having clinched the Orange Cap in IPL 2022, notched an impressive 863 runs with four fifties and four centuries, maintaining an outstanding average of 57.53.

Now, he is poised to lead the defending champions in the upcoming T20 World Cup, slated to be held in the USA and the Caribbean Islands in June this year.
