About the Author:

Dr C. J. Sonowal is a renowned anthropologist who is currently attached to the prestigious Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai. With a wealth of experience in research, teaching, and guiding M. Phil and Ph.D. students, he has published several books and articles in his field. Dr Sonowal’s research interests are focused on the study of Indigenous societies, especially on the health and treatment-seeking behaviour of Indigenous people, Tribal Religion, Identity, and Ethnicity. He is a well-respected expert in his field and has contributed significantly to the advancement of knowledge in Anthropology. Dr Milonjyoti Borgohain is a highly accomplished Anthropologist. He serves as the Assistant Professor and HOD of the Department of Anthropology at Moridhal College, Dhemaji. He is also an Editor of Skylines of Anthropology, an International Journal and Academic Research Foundation (ARF, India). He has an impressive publication record in various national and international journals and conducts Research.

A: The idea of bringing together the conventional and contemporary ideas together.

Q: Can You Tell Us About The Book?

A:This book contains insightful theoretical analyses and detailed micro-level studies that broaden our understanding of pressing contemporary issues and contextualise its findings within the larger societal framework, providing a comprehensive view of the situations being examined. It also focuses on decolonising anthropological knowledge production, exploring the nuances of social stigma, religion as an ethnic marker, and the issues of writing indigenous ethnohistory. It also deconstructed the social past of an indigenous entity using autoethnography. It tries to explore the connection between biology, society, and cultural drives in the realm of health issues, making the book a unique contribution to the production of anthropological knowledge in the contemporary realm.
