HYDERABAD: Actor Nagarjuna Akkineni‘s state-of-the-art convention centre – touted as a “one-stop destination for all occasions” – was pulled down by the newly-formed Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRA) on Saturday morning for allegedly encroaching upon Tummidikunta lake‘s full tank level (FTL) area, reports Amisha Rajani.
Nagarjuna, who termed the demolition of N-Convention Centre “unlawful” in a post on X, approached Telangana high court, which ordered a stay on the demolition drive and issued notices to HYDRA and state govt.
HYDRA had razed almost the entire structure by 11 am, while HC passed the stay order at 1.40 pm, asking the authorities to stop further demolition. The convention centre is jointly owned by Nagarjuna and his friend N Preetham, and is managed by N3 Enterprises.
HYDRA’s action came following a complaint by roads and buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, who accused the actor of encroaching upon three-and-a-half acres of land, which was originally part of Tummidikunta.
Defending the demolition, HYDRA commissioner A V Ranganath said N-Convention was built in the FTL and buffer zones of the lake and did not have any building permissions.
