It’s never too late to chase your dreams. You think it’s a myth? Imagine a woman going out on an Australia tour at the age of 102 only to tick another item off her bucket list. Thanks to her courage and self-confidence, Dorothy Smith has now become the “world’s oldest person to travel all seven continents”. Fulfilling her last wish are two kind-hearted men – Ammar Kandil and Staffan Taylor – who own the “Yes Therory” YouTube channel with almost 9.3 million subscribers. The duo met Smith earlier in October when they visited the Redwoods Retirement Village in Mill Valley, California, to cover a story.

Upon interacting with Smith, Kandil and Taylor got to know about her love and passion for travel. She revealed her wish to see all seven continents. She had visited Asia, North America, South America, Antarctica and Europe but had never been to Australia.

“Travel is important to me because it’s a big world, and each country is different and has something different to offer. I want to see them all and I don’t want to miss anything,” Smith said during an interview with Destination NSW.

Kandil and Taylor then offered help. They collaborated with Destination NSW and Qantas to plan an itinerary for Smith’s Australia visit. Her dream came true last week when Smith and her daughter Adrienne flew off to Sydney, with Kandil and Taylor accompanying them on the trip.

“It’s never too late for an adventure, just try and see and I think you will be surprised how well you do. You either rust out or wear out. I chose to wear out,” Smith was heard saying in a video shared by Yes Theory on YouTube.

The 102-year-old travelled business class on a Qantas flight. She was felicitated by the pilots and the other crew members before take-off. Upon touching down on Australian soil, Smith spent time on a Sydney Harbour cruise and watched koalas and kangaroos at WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo before visiting the Sydney Opera House and Bondi Beach. She also enjoyed a day out at the Botanic Gardens and Museum of Contemporary Art.

About her Sydney trip, Smith said, “The people are charming, the food is good, the scenery is just wonderful, and even the weather is nice. However, I was expecting more wild plains with grasses growing on them.”

Yes Theory’s Kandil and Taylor documented the entire journey of Smith. They dropped a video on YouTube which has already gathered over four lakh views and nearly 28,000 likes.
