Exclusive interview with the author

Q: What Inspired You To Write This Book?

A: I have been practicing as an advocate from past 16 years and drafting legal documents has been a daily routine. I always knew from within that I could take up creative writing but was skeptical that it would affect my legal drafting work. But the stories stitched around thousands of cases that I have handled over these years finally inspired me to start off with this first novel.

Q: Can You Tell Us About The Book?

A: “Tales of Lawyer Ramachandra Shastry” takes the readers on a riveting journey into the world of a young, determined lawyer. Ramachandra Shastry’s pursuit of justice is set against the rich tapestry of Indian Traditions and Culture, where law often collides with deeply entrenched beliefs. From small bail applications to intense murder trials, the novel is packed with suspense, wit and humor. Shastry’s encounters with a diverse range of characters-from ruthless landlords to mysterious deities-provide moments of tension, relief and reflections. As he navigates through the legal system, Shastry learns that justice is not always straightforward, and the path to truth is often fraught with unforeseen twists.

Q: What Did You Learn When Writing The Book?

A: There are several aspects to story telling which I did not realise before. For example, screenplay is such an important factor which an author has to keep it mind to make the stroy readable and interesting. I also learnt how to write creatively without using legal language which would be difficult for the reader.

Q: What Does The Title Mean?

A: Title denotes a fiction tale of a young lawyer who has entered into profession without any assistance of seniors in the profession.

Q: Was The Character Inspired By A Real Person?

A: yes it is inspired by my own story as a practicing lawyer.

Q: What Do You Think Happened To The Characters After The Book Ended?

A: The charachter has blossomed into a fine lawyer 🙂

Q: How Long Does It Take You To Write A Book?

A: it took me approximately 60 hours to write this book which was spread over one and a half months.

Q: What Is The Most Difficult Part About Writing For You?

A: Some might find this answer to be amusing and unexpected. But for me, being satisfied with the drafts is the most difficult task in the writing process. There’s always a zeal to make it better than what it is. And one has to take care that they stay raw while perfecting each piece. But sometimes, you can not just let yourself accept the final draft. It’s always like “maybe I can get this better” or “this needs more work”. But in the end, nothing is perfect and one has to accept their draft as the final one and trust it.
