Q: What Inspired You To Write This Book?

A: Hanumanji is undoubtedly a very popular deity in today’s time. Hanuman Chalisa is also equally popular. Despite this, there is hardly any text that explains the contexts and real meaning of the verses of the Chalisa. The internet is full of discussions on the benefits of reciting the Chalisa, but when it comes to interpretation of the text, not many are aware of that. This inspired me to write this book.

Q: Can You Tell Us About The Book?

A: This book discusses the background against which the verses of the Hanuman Chalisa were composed. Valmiki and Tulsidas have slightly different portrayals of the character of Hanuman ji. This book discusses this aspect in detail. Tulsidas is a poet of the Bhakti tradition, but he has delved deep into Indian philosophical systems. Gems of Sanatan philosophy form the core of the Chalisa. I have attempted to correlate the core with the outward features i.e the verses. And I think not many works exist on this aspect of Hanuman Chalisa.

Q: What Did You Learn When Writing The Book?

A: In fact, there are a host of things that I learnt while doing my research for this book. Tulsidas’s Ramanandi roots have influenced greatly the style and language of his writings. This is visible even in a small text such as the Chalisa. Secondly, Yoga and Samkhya have contributed equally as Bhakti towards the composition of this prayer-song. We all must be aware of this fact.

Q: How Did Publishing Your First Book Change Your Process Of Writing?

A: It taught me to have a reader-centric thought while writing the book. It also taught me the value of a good quality editing for publishing a book.

Q: What Is The Most Difficult Part About Writing For You?

A: To create a balance between what comes to your mind and what the average readers would like to read – this is the most difficult thing in my opinion.

Q: How Important Is Research To You When Writing A Book?

A: Research is the single most important aspect for writing a non-fiction book. Though most of the sources and references are available on the internet, picking the the things which are appropriate for the book is a very hard job.

Q: Do You Believe A Book Cover Plays An Important Role In The Selling Process?

A: Absolutely. A cover is the point of first contact between a reader and the author.
