NEW DELHI: Indian ODI captain Rohit Sharma shared a lighthearted moment with paparazzi at Mumbai International Airport after completing his fitness test at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Sharma, along with teammates Jasprit Bumrah and Shubman Gill, underwent the tests ahead of India’s upcoming assignments.At the airport, Rohit engaged in a playful banter with the photographers, quipping: “Tum log bahut bade log ho bhai, tumko haath nahi laga sakta” (“You guys are big, I can’t touch you”).

The cameramen quickly replied, “Nahi sir aap bade ho, sir aapka intezaar hai hame. ODI mein bahot din se cricket nahi dekha” (“No sir, you are bigger. We are waiting to see you in ODIs, it’s been a while since we watched cricket”).The 38-year-old has not featured in competitive cricket since the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings. During the tournament’s week-long suspension owing to Operation Sindoor, Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket.Recently, he was spotted at The Oval in London, cheering for India during their final Test against England.Rohit’s next assignment will be the limited-overs tour of Australia, while Gill and Bumrah prepare for the Asia Cup 2025, starting September 9 in the UAE.Currently active only in ODIs, Rohit has carved a remarkable record in the format. In 273 matches, he has amassed 11,168 runs at an average of 48.76, with 32 centuries. He still holds the record for the highest individual ODI score (264) and remains the only player with three double-centuries in the format.His last ODI outing came in the Champions Trophy 2025 final, where India defeated New Zealand by four wickets to lift the trophy.
