Hamburger SV winger Jean-Luc Dompe has landed in serious trouble after being fined six figures by the club for drunk driving.
HSV confirmed on Tuesday that the 30-year-old was hit with a “record fine in the six-figure range” following a late-January traffic stop, where police detected alcohol during a roadside breath test.

The club immediately suspended Dompe while dealing with the fallout.
Dompe addressed the situation during a meeting with club officials, offering a full apology, but accepting that words alone wouldn’t be enough.
“I absolutely failed to live up to my role as a role model,” Dompe said in a statement released by HSV. “I made serious mistakes and take full responsibility for the consequences. I understand the disappointment of the club, the staff and the fans. I’m incredibly sorry, especially for letting the team down during such an important phase of the season.”
Hamburg confirmed Dompe will remain sidelined for the rest of the week but is expected to return to training shortly.
The incident comes at an awkward time for HSV, who are back in the Bundesliga after a seven-year absence and fighting to steady themselves in the top flight. The club currently sits 13th in the 18-team league.
On the pitch, Dompe has featured regularly this season, making 14 Bundesliga appearances and scoring two goals. Off it, the winger now faces the task of rebuilding trust — with teammates, the club, and supporters.
