Stock market holiday: Most major stock markets across Asia are also closed today, May 1, on account of Labour Day.

Trading across the BSE and the NSE will be unavailable on Friday across segments.

Stock Market Holiday Today: The Indian stock market is closed for trading on Friday, May 1, on account of Maharashtra Day. Trading across both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) remains suspended today.

Due to the holiday, there is no activity in the equity, derivatives, or securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments. Normal market operations will resume on Monday, May 4.

Trading Segments Affected

As per the official holiday calendar of BSE and NSE, May 1 is designated as a trading holiday across:

  • Equity segment
  • Equity derivatives segment
  • Currency derivatives segment

Commodity Market Timings Today

Commodity markets will operate partially on Friday.

The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) remains closed during the morning session (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM) but will resume trading in the evening session from 5:00 PM to 11:55 PM.

However, the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will remain closed for both morning and evening sessions.

Global Markets Also Closed

Several global markets are also shut on May 1 due to Labour Day.

In Asia, markets in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Mauritius remain closed.

In Europe, markets in France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, and other countries are also shut for the holiday.

Stock Market Holidays in 2026

After Maharashtra Day, there are multiple trading holidays scheduled for the rest of 2026.

The next holiday falls on May 28 for Bakri Id.

In June, markets will remain closed on June 26 for Muharram. There are no stock market holidays in July and August.

Later in the year, holidays are scheduled as follows:

  • September 14: Ganesh Chaturthi
  • October 2: Gandhi Jayanti
  • October 20: Dussehra
  • November 10: Diwali Balipratipada
  • November 24: Guru Nanak Jayanti
  • December 25: Christmas

Overall, the Indian stock market will observe several holidays across the year, largely aligned with major national and religious events.
