Waiting for their salaries amid heavy police deployment across Noida on Thursday (May 7, 2026), many workers at the Motherson factory appeared unsure about the promised hike. Workers said they neither received their payslips nor saw the revised wages credited to their accounts till evening. By evening, however, their anxieties dissipated.
“Salaries for the month of April, including the increased wages, were disbursed by May 7 in line with the directive issued by the Uttar Pradesh government,” said the company, which was at the centre of the labour unrest in mid-April.
Workers in the industrial area had staged a series of protests in April over issues such as wage hike, working hours and better overtime pay, with violence reported during one such stir on April 13. Following the stir, the Uttar Pradesh government announced an increase of up to 21% in minimum wages for unskilled workers, effective from April 1. It also announced a 15% raise for those working in municipalities and 9% increase for workers in other areas.
Several companies in Noida told The Hindu that they had complied with the State government’s direction to disburse salaries by the 10th of every month, along with overtime wages calculated on an hourly basis at double rates.
Confirming the disbursals, the Motherson Group said it is strongly committed to transparency, compliance, and ethical business practices. “We are fully compliant with all applicable laws and directives received from the government from time to time, including timely payment of wages and all other statutory payments,” read a statement issued by the company.
