US-Iran War LIVE Updates: Explosions Heard Near Oil Tanker In Strait Of Hormuz, Crew Safe
US-Iran War LIVE Updates: Iran on Wednesday said it is in the “final stage” of drafting an agreement with Oman on navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
The comments came as US President Donald Trump said a deal could be announced this week after alternating between threatening military action against Iran and backing diplomatic efforts.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said the agreement was being finalised and that a joint statement would be issued if “certain parties” did not obstruct the process, in an apparent reference to the US.
Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi also said a final understanding with Oman was close, adding that discussions were strictly bilateral and denying reports of any negotiations with Washington over the strategic waterway.
Regional Shipping Continues To Be Hit
Regional shipping tensions continued. Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels claimed they had fired ballistic missiles at a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea near the port of Yanbu. Saudi Arabia did not immediately comment.
Earlier, the UK’s maritime agency reported a security incident southeast of Aden, but it was not immediately clear whether it was linked to the claimed attack.
