Byculla Police arrested 22-year-old delivery worker Danish Sher Khan for allegedly pelting eggs at the Mazgaoncha Morya Ganpati procession in Mazgaon on Sunday. Khan was carrying eggs for delivery to an apartment on Rambhau Bhogle Marg when smoke from fireworks set off by procession members allegedly irritated him, prompting the attack, police said.

The arrest — made within 36 hours of the incident — followed a probe by five dedicated investigation teams set up by senior officers, who used CCTV footage, technical analysis and local intelligence to trace the accused, according to Mid-day.

Byculla Police have registered a case under Sections 299 and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the investigation remains underway, an official said.

An unidentified person allegedly threw eggs from an upper floor of a building onto the Mazgaoncha Morya Ganpati arrival procession on August 23, causing tension among devotees and prompting concerns over law and order in the area.

During questioning, police said Khan — who works as an online delivery worker supplying eggs to households — was en route to deliver eggs to an apartment on Rambhau Bhogle Marg when smoke from fireworks being set off by procession members allegedly irritated him.

Police said he grew angry over the smoke and threw the eggs at the procession from the building.

Following the incident, heavy police deployment was ordered in Mazgaon, with personnel stationed at strategic locations to prevent further escalation.
