His announcement comes a day after a report highlighted objections raised by two Election Commissioners over decisions and orders linked to the SIR process and other electoral matters.

An Indian Express investigation reported that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had formally raised objections at least 14 times over 10 months to steps taken by the poll panel. The objections, according to the report, included issues related to Form 6 for new voters, additions and deletions from electoral rolls and the centralisation of voter database systems.

The report said the two commissioners had questioned certain decisions as being taken without their knowledge and had raised concerns over changes to procedures related to electoral rolls.

The Election Commission, however, rejected the suggestion that these objections represented institutional dissent over the Commission’s final decisions. The poll panel said differences of opinion, queries and suggestions during the draft stage are part of its regular administrative and decision-making process and maintained that all decisions taken by the three-member Commission, including those concerning SIR, were unanimous.

The issue triggered sharp political reactions, with Opposition parties questioning the functioning and decision-making process of the Election Commission and raising concerns over the SIR exercise. The BJP, meanwhile, defended the poll panel and said deliberations and differences during the decision-making process do not amount to a breakdown in the Commission’s functioning.
