A total of 20.9 km of roads dug up for drinking water and underground sewerage projects in Coimbatore are yet to be taken up for restoration, with all the pending stretches falling under the jurisdiction of the State Highways Department. The Coimbatore Corporation has restored 377.2 km (82.3%) of the 458.1 km of roads dug up for the projects, according to its status report as on Wednesday (November 4).

Restoration work is under way on another 60 km of roads, but restoration on 20.9 km of State Highways is yet to be taken up. The Corporation said it was coordinating with the Highways Department to complete the pending work.

The Corporation has restored 342.4 km (91.5%) of the 374.2 km of its roads dug up for the projects. Work is under way on the remaining 31.8 km. Of the 27 km of National Highways dug up, 9.3 km have been restored and work is under way on 17.8 km. On State Highways, 25.5 km of the 56.8 km has been restored, 10.4 km is under restoration and 20.9 km is yet to be taken up.

The roads were dug up under four projects: the 24×7 drinking water supply scheme, UGSS 3 and the two packages of UGSS 4.

The two UGSS 4 packages together account for 373.9 km of the total road length. Of this, 332 km (88.8%) has been restored, while work is under way on 30.6 km. The remaining 11.3 km is yet to be taken up. Under UGSS 3, 23.5 km of the 37.5 km dug up has been restored. The 24×7 drinking water supply project has recorded restoration of 21.7 km of the 46.7 km covered.

Among the major road stretches, 5.6 km of the 12.7-km stretch of Sathy Road between Ukkadam and Textool flyover has been restored. On Trichy Road, 3.7 km of the 6.2-km stretch between Town Hall signal and Sungam junction has been restored. On Avinashi Road, 12.4 km of the 13.1-km stretch has been restored using wet mix macadam (WMM). Restoration has also been completed on 3.9 km of Ganapathy–Kanuvai Road via KNG Pudur.

Work is under way on 5.4 km of Mettupalayam Road, the remaining 7.2 km of Sathy Road and 2.5 km of Trichy Road. On Ramanathapuram–Chettipalayam Road, 4.9 km of the 7.3-km stretch is being restored. On Thudiyalur–Marudhamalai Road, 2.2 km of the 3.9-km stretch has been restored.

The Corporation said that a total of 4.3 km on four State Highway stretches under UGSS 3 — Thudiyalur–Saravanampatti–Keeranatham, NGM–Vellakinaru, Urumandampalayam–Vellakinaru and Ganapathy–Athipalayam — was restored by the Highways Department in 2025.

Considering the Northeast monsoon, restoration work under all four projects is being expedited. The total restoration cost for the stretches handed over to the Highways Department under the four projects is ₹132.67 crore.

The Corporation said house service connection works were still under way at certain locations on National and State Highways. Restoration of those stretches would be taken up after the connection works were completed.
