Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has announced a ₹10,000 ex-gratia grant for each of the 83,000 officers and employees of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).

The decision, taken at a meeting of MSRTC officials on Wednesday (November 4, 2026), also includes an advance payment of ₹12,500 for eligible employees and an increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) from 58% to 60%.

“Despite the financial difficulties faced by the MSRTC, employees should not be deprived of the joy of Diwali,” Mr. Sarnaik said. He added that the measures would impose an additional financial burden of around ₹160 crore on the Corporation. However, he said, employees’ efforts to provide safe transport services to lakhs of passengers needed to be rewarded.

Mr. Sarnaik also appealed to ST employees not to resort to agitation or a strike, saying that their grievances could be resolved through dialogue.
