Actor Vijay Deverakonda Questioned By Telangana SIT In Online Betting App Case

Actor Vijay Deverakonda appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Telangana government on Tuesday in connection with cases related to promoting online betting apps, police sources confirmed. 

A senior police official said that the actor was questioned by officials regarding his alleged involvement in endorsing or promoting these platforms.

Several other celebrities including Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, and Manchu Lakshmi are also under investigation for endorsing such apps. The probe involves cases registered under multiple laws including the Telangana State Gaming Act and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The Telangana government had constituted the SIT under the supervision of the Additional Director General of Police (CID) specifically to tackle illegal betting activities in the state. The team is tasked with conducting a thorough investigation into the rising number of online betting app cases, identifying those responsible, and taking strict legal action against violators.

The SIT is examining multiple facets of the cases, including app promotion strategies, financial transactions, and alleged links with individuals or groups operating these platforms. High-profile personalities who have endorsed these apps are being questioned to determine the extent of their involvement.

Promotion of online betting apps is a punishable offence under Indian law, and authorities are emphasising strict action against celebrities and influencers found complicit in such activities.

The Telangana government continues to assert that illegal betting is a serious offence with financial and social repercussions, and the SIT is leaving no stone unturned in holding all responsible parties accountable.
