The All India Football Federation (AIFF) will present the ongoing issue about the Indian Super League to the Supreme Court on Monday.

The apex court has reserved its judgement on the draft AIFF constitution, with a hearing scheduled for Monday.

Hundreds of Indian and foreign footballers face uncertainty as the Masters Rights Agreement (MRA) between Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) and AIFF regarding the Indian Super League has yet to be signed. Clubs have decided to withhold salaries for players and support staff until the situation is resolved.

“A discussion was held between the legal representatives of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the Indian Super League (ISL) clubs on Thursday, August 14, 2025,” AIFF stated on ‘X’. “All parties have agreed that the concerns of the ISL clubs regarding the delay in starting the 2025-26 ISL season and the hardships felt by players and other stakeholders will be conveyed to the Hon’ble Supreme Court next week for its kind consideration,” it added.

An AIFF source indicated they are prepared to file a written application if the court requests one.

“We will attempt to mention it, but since the judgement is reserved, we must see how the judges respond. If they find merit in the appeal, they may ask for an application to be filed. The plight of players, clubs, and football needs to be brought to their attention,” a club source told PTI.

On Wednesday, AIFF requested the legal counsels of the federation and ISL clubs to “hold discussions” on the teams’ concerns about the uncertainty over the upcoming season of the top-tier league.

Last week, 11 Indian Super League clubs urged AIFF to urgently bring the “current situation” of Indian football, arising from the uncertainty over ISL’s future, to the attention of the Supreme Court, where a case concerning the national federation’s constitution is pending.

The ISL clubs stated in a letter that they would have no choice but to seek judicial recourse independently if AIFF did not act on their request.

“On August 13, AIFF responded and requested that the legal counsels of the clubs and the federation meet to discuss the matter and decide on further action,” AIFF tweeted.

The clubs requested AIFF to approach the top court a day after the federation proposed the Super Cup in September to ensure sufficient competitive matches for the clubs, following FSDL’s “pause” on the league due to uncertainty over the renewal of the Master Rights Agreement (MRA) signed in 2010.

The crisis intensified after ISL organisers FSDL put the 2025-26 season “on hold” on July 11 due to uncertainty over the MRA renewal, causing at least three clubs to either pause first-team operations or suspend player and staff salaries.
