This work is not for factual accuracy and information. These are simply poetic doodles prompted by emotions. ‘आवारा-मिज़ाज हैं जनाब, ख़्वाहिश-ओ-कशिश पर फ़िदा हम ग़ाफ़िल-ए-मंज़िल हैं।’
Exclusive interview with the author
Q: What Inspired You To Write This Book?
A: My Grandfather’s writing habit that he developed in his last 2 years of life. He was a mathematician who wrote poems in his last days. Arts is usually abhorred by the scientific fervour but for me to see him write poems broke this misconception. That inspired me to write.
Q: Can You Tell Us About The Book?
A: This work marks his first foray into the field of poetic scribbles about anything and everything that has fascinated, inspired and impacted him since his journey from the junior year in high school upto his post-graduation. This work is not for factual accuracy and information. These are simply poetic doodles prompted by sheer emotions. ‘ मेहर-कश ये फ़ेहरिस्त-ए-नज़्म बेशक़ मेरी इंतिहा-ए-यौवन हैं।’
Q: What Does The Title Mean?
A: The title मैहरावर is derived from the persian words मेह्र, which means ‘Love’ and आवर, which means endowed with or possessing , these two words form my title मैहरावर which I have used as an epithet for Lord Krishna, since he’s the supreme one from whom the ‘love emanates’ and the one who comes in my mind when I’m passionate.
Q: What Did You Learn When Writing The Book?
A: I didn’t thought of writing a book initially I just started scribbling. Honestly I haven’t yet realised wholly what I learned. All that I can say is I learned to put my emotions into words, my feelings into phrases and my actions into poetry. And still I feel that words can’t do complete justice to your emotions which in real are very dynamic.
Q: Where Do You Get Your Information Or Ideas For Your Books?
A: I derived my inspiration from my Granddad ‘Sahab Singh Jadaun’, he was a Professor of mathematics who also wrote poems in his last years. Anything and everything that inspires me, influences me or fascinates me. From personal bonds to everyday occurrences and sometimes even the news and incidences have inspired me to write. The ideas are solely mine and they’re derived from no conspicuous source or place or book.
Q: Do You Try More To Be Original Or To Deliver To Readers What They Want?
A: All that I know on behalf of this book is I tried to be original and authentic to my emotions and my roots. I guess that’s the best one can do.
Q: What, In Your Opinion, Are The Most Important Elements Of Good Writing?
A: For me you should be erudite enough that your ‘शब्दों का ज़ख़ीरा’ or vocabulary from which you can pick the words doesn’t make you feel hackneyed and banal.
Q: What Is The Most Difficult Part About Writing For You?
A: Not finding the correct words and phrases that can do justice with my perceptions and emotions.
Q: How Important Is Research To You When Writing A Book?
A: Indeed it is important but It is not that systematic or methodical as vocabulary and emotions in writing poems.
Q: What Advice Would You Give To Aspiring Authors?
A: Don’t hesitate to put your thoughts into random scribbles.
