The Thatchanallur police have arrested a mobile phone shop owner for abducting a woman teacher in his car after offering to drop her at home on Thursday evening.

The police said when the 24-year-old teacher was waiting for a bus, the accused, Raju Paulraj, 38, of Kattaarankulam near Maanur, who was known to the woman for a few months, offered to drop her at home. As she entered his car, Paulraj took the car in the opposite direction towards Kanniyakumari instead of going to her village reportedly with a sinister motive.

As the teacher, who sensed trouble, wanted to get down to answer nature’s call even as the car was approaching Reddiyarpatti hillock on Palayamkottai outskirts, she got down from the car and alerted the police, who rescued her and arrested Paulraj.
