A joint survey is in progress to assess crop damage owing to the extensive rainfall in Yadgir district in Karnataka.
Officials of the Agriculture, Horticulture and Revenue departments began the joint survey on August 21 following some respite from rain.
Farmers in the district are estimated to have lost red gram, green gram and cotton crops in over 20,000 hectares. Apart from agriculture crops, horticulture crops too were damaged due to continuous rainfall.
“The exact extent of area that suffered losses would be revealed after completion of the survey,” Ratendranath Sugur, Joint Director of the Agriculture Department, told The Hindu.
Affected farmers can expect compensation fixed under the guidelines of the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).
Farmers have been demanding a crop damage survey at the earliest.
“Officers should visit rain-affected areas to assess the loss properly and enter the details in the specified crop assessment app,” urged Mallikarjun Satyampet, a farmer leader.
The abundant rain damaged not only agriculture fields but also houses in the district. So far, 21 houses have been partially damaged.
