Parvatipuram-Manyam district administration has prioritised tourism by publicising the 16 waterfalls in hilly areas, which were previously inaccessible due to their geographical disadvantage.
Collector N. Prabhakar Reddy and Joint Collector C. Yaswanth Kumar Reddy took the support of local tribal people to create access routes and promote the waterfalls. They also introduced cycle taxis so that the tribals could take tourists up to the waterfall spots.
Loddha waterfall located in the remote Makkuva mandal, now features a bamboo-wood pole arch which is a special attraction. Monagali waterfall in Tadikonda village, of Gummalakshmipuram mandal, is attracting tourists from nearby Odisha. The waterfalls in Seethampeta, Kurupam, Saluru and other areas are the most sought-after-destinations by tourists from the districts.
Speaking to The Hindu, the Collector said that the promotion of these waterfalls will ensure a decent livelihood for local tribal people. “The protection of nature is also being given top priority. Tourists are not allowed to use plastic bottles, cups and other materials. Safety at these sites is also being prioritised.” Mr.Yaswanth Kumar Reddy anticipates that the tourists numbers would go up significantly during Christmas and Sankranti.
