The United Democratic Front (UDF) has retained its supremacy in municipalities across Ernakulam district as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured victory in the Thripunitura municipality at the end of four hours of counting around 12 noon, on December 13, 2025.

Of the 13 municipalities, the United front was leading in 12 municipalities including Aluva, Angamaly, Eloor, Kalamassery, Koothattukulam, Kothamangalam, Maradu, Muvattupuzha, North Paravur, Perumbavoor, Piravom and Thrikkakara.

The NDA edged past the Left front to secure an impressive win in Thripunitura municipality. It won 21 of the 53 wards. The Left front was close behind with 20 seats while the United Democratic Front won 12 seats.

The UDF is almost certain of wresting the Koothattukulam and Kothamangalam municipalities, which were won by the Left front in 2020. The front put up a stellar performance in Piravom municipality as it was leading in 21 of the 28 wards.

Of the 13 municipalities, the UDF had won eight in the 2020 polls that included Thrikkakara, Kalamassery, Muvattupuzha, Perumbavoor, North Paravur, Maradu, Aluva and Angamaly. The Left Democratic Front had secured victory in Eloor, Koothattukulam, Kothamangalam, Piravom and Thripunitura municipalities.

At the end of the term of the present council, the UDF increased its overall tally to nine municipalities after rebel Communist Party of India (Marxist) councillor Kala Raju helped the front wrest power in Koothattukulam municipality.
