The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday announced a 5-10 per cent water cut across Mumbai from October 17 to October 18 citing a glitch in a valve on a pipeline in Thane district.

The civic body said that a breakdown has occurred in the 900 mm valve of the Vaitarna water pipeline system at Tarali (District Thane), necessitating the partial shutdown of the water supply system.

Consequently, there has been a 5% to 10% reduction in the water supply to the Bhandup Water Treatment Plant, which supplies water to Greater Mumbai. As a result, a 5% to 10% cut in water supply will be imposed across Mumbai from Thursday, October 17, to Friday, October 18.

The BMC added that immediate steps have been taken to repair the malfunction, and for this purpose, it is necessary to partially shut down the water conveyance system. As a result, there will be a 5% to 10% reduction in water supply to the Bhandup Water Treatment Plant, which supplies water to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation area (Mumbai city and suburbs).

The repair work is expected to take approximately 48 hours.

“Citizens are requested to store adequate water and use it judiciously. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation administration appeals to all citizens to cooperate by conserving water during this period,” the statement said.
